The year of 2017 witnessed the largest donation done by UAE to official development aid in the world. This was reported by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
UAE made a contribution of Dh19.32 billion of development aid in the year 2017. The country spent 1.31 percent of its total national income on foreign development aid. This percentage is almost the double value which was set by the United Nations.
In 201, UAE increased its donation percentage by 27.2 when compared to last year. In 2016, UAE contributed Dh15.57 billion. 43 percent of the development aid by UAE was distributed among Asia, Africa, and Europe. Asia received aid worth Dh8.28 billion, Africa Dh5.4 billion and Europe received Dh 4.44 billion. Dh 2.97 billion was donated to Yemen.
The Vice President and Ruler of Dubai said the development aid of UAE reached 19.3 billion and the country has retained their top position as a country giving out aids for the fifth year now. The UAE wants good for the humanity. This was the basic principle which was followed by the Founder of UAE.
Total global foreign aid amounts to Dh538.5 billion. The primary data which has been collected by OECD states that less money was spent on the refugees in the countries that received the aid. Most of the aids flowed into those countries that desperately needed. Sweden comes second in giving out development aid globally. The country spends 1.01 percent of its total national income on development aid.
On Monday, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation said UAE’s continuous contribution to development aid shows the continuous efforts made by the Emirates to serve the mankind.
