UAE Gears Up for International Yoga Day Celebrations during This Weekend

Thousands of yoga enthusiasts are ready to roll out their mats across Dubai and the other Northern Emirates in order to observe International Yoga Day. This weekend would witness yoga enthusiasts celebrating fifth International Yoga Day (IYD) across various locations of UAE. One would get to see yoga schools setting up kiosks and stalls on-site, and people would be able to walk up to the centre and learn more about Yoga.

Vipul, the Consul-General of India to Dubai, on Monday declared that the goal would be observing IYD in cooperation with many Indian associations in the Northern Emirates. He stated that apart from the huge gathering anticipated at Zabeel Park in Dubai on Friday, people are being invited to the mass yoga sessions in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Sharjah and Fujairah. He added yoga has played a crucial role in promoting peace and tolerance.

With the passage of years, the prevalence of the celebrations has grown constantly, extending to government departments, such as the Dubai Sports Council and Dubai Municipality. More schools have been practicing yoga.

Organizations like Isha Yoga Foundation, Art of Living, Heartfulness Yoga, and Raja Yoga would be participating. Although the common yoga protocol would be the highlight of the event, the consulate will arrange competitions, cultural programmes, a documentary screening, and many other activities.

The envoy even stated that they are collaborating with Indian curriculum schools. The Common Yoga Protocol would be carried out by Shobana, the consulate’s teacher of Indian culture and yoga. In Sharjah, organizers like Ekata are expecting almost 5,000 participants for their yoga event at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Rajeev Pillai, president of Ekata, stated that last year, they had organized the event at Al Tiqah Club where they had 2,000 participants. This year, they are having it in association with Sharjah Sports Council, and are expecting more participants.
