For the Christian community of Abu Dhabi, the St. Andrews Church is an oasis of peace, a home away from home, an institution for life, a refuge and some more things beyond this. The long-time members of the community have been recalled as the Anglican Church had their celebrations for the 50th anniversary. It was a very special moment for Jose Bernado Gomes who worked as a parish clerk at the church from 1980 to 2012. This church has been his existence and life from the till he came to UAE in the year 1979. He got a special invitation to be a part of the celebrations by the church.
Minister of Tolerance, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan also attended the celebrations along with other and he told addressing towards them that they have been a shining example of selfless service towards the community and also for the tolerance. It is always humbling to see someone walk in the path which he or she has been showed by. Gomes used to work in the church since the building was at the corniche. Later, it shifted to a new building in Muroor. He used to do every work such as taking care of the paperwork and also running the errands.
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan also said that the members of the church have chosen to stand for your fellow men and also they have selected to share their facility with all the other members of other congregations rather than just to keep it for their own convenience and use too. More than 50 congregations who are from different communities and nationalities which include Koreans, Pakistanis, Indians, Ethiopians, Nepalese and western expats worship at the Anglican Church worship on daily basis. All Saints Anglican Church is being constructed in Musaffah. Once it is complete it will be known as the biggest Anglican Church in the whole of Middle East.
