Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of State and Chairman of the National Media Council, NMC, participated in discussion with the members of the “third Young Arab Media Leaders Program,” sorted out by the Arab Youth Center, which is under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
The talks were on the important media issues, for example, the use of social media by the youth, awareness of fake news, the significance of the media to society, alongside accomplishing overall maintainable development.
“The UAE’s government has faith in the key job of the media in meeting its national objectives. It is one of the major pillars of the society in accomplishing economic growth as well as prosperity. Its job isn’t simply to spread news and information. We should guarantee trustworthiness, and transparency. Sultan Al Jaber focused on the use and importance of authenticity and logic. He also took note of the new media as it is drawing its attention on world leaders, mainly as the current technology has primarily influenced the media, especially social media. Al Jaber emphasized that there is no competition between the new media and conventional media, yet there is a mix. Traditional media has not yet vanished and still has a vital role.
During the talks with different members Sultan Al Jaber examined the difficulties faced by the Arab media and how to address them, just as the requirement for knowledge, reason to prevail, and the utilization of analytical thinking is important.
The young media professionals from the UAE, Morocco, Oman, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Tunisia, Comoros, Algeria, Kuwait, Yemen, Sudan, Mauritania, Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Libya, and Palestine were taking part in this year’s program.
The discussion was held at the Arab Youth Center in Abu Dhabi, with the interest and contribution of Saeed Alnazari, Director-General of the Federal Foundation, Mansour Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Director-General of the NMC, Dr. Rashid Al Nuaimi, Executive Director of the Media Affairs Sector at the NMC, and Shamma bint Suhail Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Vice President of the Arab Youth Center.
