Largest Virtual Battery Plant of the World Opened in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi Department of Energy has inaugurated the region’s first Grid Scale Battery deployment and the world’s largest Virtual Battery Plant with the scope of distributing 108 megawatts over 10 sites across the emirate.
The launch, which coincides with the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2019, observes the first unified control system for energy storage in Abu Dhabi. It intends to assist the city by conforming load balancing during the day.
Awaidha Murshed Al Marar, Chairman of the Department of Energy, told leading news daily that the historic distribution assures sustainable energy supply across many crucial sites in Abu Dhabi as part of a cohesive plan to obtain enough electrical power production in order to meet increasing demand for energy in the emirate. He made this announcement on the sidelines of the inaugural ceremony.
The project observes an extraordinary transformation for the emirate to check systematic and optimal use of energy and integration of solar and other forms of renewable in order to meet the increasing demand and give load balancing in order to upgrade and enhance the dispensation of workloads across various resources.
This virtual battery plant will assure additional supply of electricity for 6 hours during emergencies through the use of storage batteries. He also stated that the emirate possess other renewable power generation facilities, which includes the solar power plant, Noor Abu Dubai that would become functional soon.
