Host UAE reaches Quarter Finals of Asian Cup by eliminating Kyrgyzstan

The Asian Cup 2019 hosts that is the United Arabs Emirates reached the last eight of the Asian Cup football tournament and kept their hopes alive of sticking ahead in the rest of the tournament.

Ahmed Khalil from the UAE converted an extra time penalty which ended in a victory of 3-2 over Kyrgyzstan. This victory still keeps the UAE in hopes of landing the prestigious title at home.

An early goal from Khamis Esmaeel got cancelled out by Mirlan Murzaec from Kyrgyzstan. This made it look as if Ali Mabkhout’s 64 minute strike would settle the situation for UAE until another equalizer goal was shot dramatically by Tursunali Rustamov.

Zaccheroni’s team knew that they had to uplift their level of play in order to secure the win and keep alive the pace of staying alive in the tournament. He said that it was a difficult game and Kyrgyzstan put up a very aggressive match however he is thankful to his team for the way they played. The UAE team was positive and achieved a milestone in the form of a goal for advancing in the tournament.

The home side started on a brighter note till the extra period. The referee did not hesitate to point out when Mabkhout had been challenged by Bekzhan Sagyanbaev, this naturally lead Khalil to put away the penalty.

Kyrgyztan hit twice but in the end had to surrender to the hosts after they failed to snatch a third equalizer. This not only changed the fate of the host nation but successfully cleared their way of proceeding into the last eight.

The victory is indeed an achievement for the host side but it is more important now for UAE to perform even better so that they can fetch their dream title for the debut time.
