Foundation Stone Ceremony for the First Hindu Shrine in the UAE to Take Place Soon
From across the Middle East and beyond, thousands of worshippers are going to turn up for the laying down ceremony of the foundation stone. It is going to be the first traditional Hindu stone temple in the UAE. The laying down of the foundation stone for the Hindu temple would be held on 20th April in Abu Dhabi, according to the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha (BAPS). This year, would mark the countdown to the start of construction work on the 27-acre land.
The rituals would consist of the stone being worshipped and sanctified by Hindu priests. The ceremony would be carried out at the temple site in Abu Mureikha by BAPS, which is a religious and social organization that is building the temple.
Swami Brahmavihari, a senior Hindu priest who is responsible for international relations at the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, stated that it would be a holy ceremony.
The ‘shilanyas’ event is a holy Hindu ritual where the first foundation stones are purifies and fixed on the ground as the temple’s base.
Mahant Swami Maharaj, the spiritual leader of the group, will head the ceremony and representatives from the UAE will also attend the event. Worshippers will be cheered to shower flowers as part of prayers on the site from 2pm on April 20.
Before the foundation stone ceremony, pujas will be held in Dubai for 12 days starting from 18th April, with ancient Vedic verses being chanted through the day.
The location and timings of the daily prayer services from April 18 until April 29 will be declared on the temple website.
Construction work will start in 2019, although an exact date is not yet known to anyone.
