Under the aegis of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has officially launched the 10th edition of Dubai International Arabic Calligraphy Exhibition (DIACE). The event was set in motion with an open discussion about the Arabic calligraphy, by Mohammed Al Murr, Chairman of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library.
The DIACE which is in its 10th season will feature works of accomplished calligraphers who will scrutinize the medium in modern and traditional techniques. With a show of art renditions in present-day designs and styles, it intends to offer a more in-depth understanding of this medium to visitors.
Arranged every two years, the exhibition observes calligraphy as one of the most powerful forms of art for featuring the excellence of the written word and putting forward a powerful idea that is associated to Islamic heritage, as well as the region’s cultural and social identity.
DIACE intends to throw some light on the use of calligraphy in present-day design and frame the art form in a modern context to boost its appeal for today’s Islamic and Arab communities and artists.
