Dubai has commissioned for the first opera in the United Arabs Emirates ahead of Expo 2020 making it a cultural milestone for the nation. The opera would be privileged with music from award-winning composers such as Mohammed Fairouz and also the author and librettist Maha Gargash both of them being natives of the United Arabs Emirates. They would be providing the opera with dialog and music.
Al Wasl would be spanning for thousands of years combining Global as well as Emirati talents. This would bring life to the right heritage of UAE and also share its innovative spirit with the rest of the world.
Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director-General of Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau, Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, in an announcement said the Expo 2020 supported the wider innovation strategy of the United Arabs Emirates and it also aimed at creating a lasting but positive impact on the society. He also said that the Ministry was proud to create a global influence on the culture and talents of the Emiratis through the opera.
The two-hour production for the cultural milestone in UAE would be made in partnership with Welsh National Opera. After the completion of the production, it is due to be premiered at the Dubai Opera in the month of October next year parallel with the opening of the Expo 2020.
The program would be featuring more than 100 artists and musicians and would be performed in English as well as Arabic languages. The organizers of Expo 2020 are expecting to attract over 25 million visitors between the months of October 2020 and April 2021. As per the estimations, 70 per cent of the visitors in the event is expected to be from outside UAE.
