172 Teams to Contend for Dh1 Million Prizes at Government Games Scheduled Next Month
The final physical and mental challenge for government employees is back. Now, it’s bigger and difficult than ever before, with 172 local, federal and international teams contending for the top prize at the second edition of Gov Games, which is going to take place on Kite Beach, Dubai, from 3rd to 6th April.
Under the banner, ‘One Team One Spirit’, government teams are played off against each other, trial their teamwork, physical ability, speed, mental sharpness, problem-solving skills in conquering various difficult courses. Winning teams in both the male and female categories would receive Dh1 million each.
Marwan bin Issa, director of Gov Games, told reporters after the direction and official draw for the competition on Tuesday at Nad Al Sheba Sports Arena that this year’s edition is going to be a highly different from last year. It was stated that a couple of bonuses has been added to some hindrances. From this year, every second would count, so teams have to resolve and act quickly when they’re dealing with the hindrances.
The ‘risk and reward’ bonus will allow teams extra points by taking on added risks or enforcing decisions that mirror advanced thinking and performance.
He also emphasized that coming up with novel platforms such as Gov Games would help introduce crucial corporate values, like teamwork, diplomatic thinking and determination, to reach the aim across the UAE’s government departments and part that challenge with participating teams from around the globe.
Gov Games is arranged by the Executive Council of Dubai, in association with Dubai Sports Council (DSC).
Last year’s inaugural edition was won by Team F3, headed by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, in the men’s category, while the trophy in the women’s division was lifted by the team from the US Consulate General in Dubai.
