100 Emiratis Give Food Boxes to Workers in UAE

Over 100 Emiratis belonging to different ages came forward to pack thousands of food boxes and distribute it to the workers all over Abu Dhabi.

The touching action, took place at Ritz-Carlton Grand Canal. This act was a part of the Abu Dhabi Volunteers 2020 Forum which coincided with the International Volunteering Day on 5th December. Participants filled the food boxes with flour packets, beans, sugar, juice, bread and pasta, among others.

Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development, stated that this graceful day shows that the UAE is taking a step further on International Volunteering Day. The International Volunteering Day is a day that is about taking good care of individuals as well as communities.

In addition to the volunteer activity, the event also sketched out the plans for the World Volunteer Conference, the largest global assemblage of volunteering professionals and experts that would take place in Abu Dhabi in 2020.

Being held for the first time in the Middle East, the conference will be hosted by Emirates Foundation and is anticipated to captivate over 1,000 participants, constituting the volunteer community all over the world. It will be a landmark conference as it will also observe the 50th anniversary of the International Association of Volunteering Effort (IAVE).

Buhumaid stated that they are working hard to boost the culture of volunteering. For this reason, Abu Dhabi has been chosen to host the conference.

Kylee Bates, world president of IAVE, mentioned that it was very crucial for them to weigh on what would be a very strong message for the 50th year anniversary, and the variety in the UAE is a compelling message.

One of the volunteers for the event stated that the initiative underlines the importance of offering a helping hand.
